Reininger Desiderata 20

desiderata n., pl. 1. Something considered highly desirable, necessary, or even essential. 2. yearned for 3. Sought after. [Latin   desideratum, DESIRE.]

The definition of Desiderata is not only apropos for this REININGER 20THAnniversary retrospective, non-vintage blend of all six noble Bordeaux red varietals but also for describing 20 years of passion behind our winery. The depth of its dark garnet color eludes to riches soon to be exposed. Fragrant scents of wild blackberry and eucalyptus burst from the glass revealing layers of black currant, cherries, dry fig, both vanilla and coffee bean, with a hint of dried tobacco leaves, a blend of exotic spice and sandalwood. The mouth is soft and velvety with supple round tannins surrendering a bounty of plums, blackberries, cherries, mulberries and chopped dates mixed in an old leather bowl splashed with cassis and sprinkled with spice and an occasional pinch of pepper. Enjoy REININGER’S homage to the multiplicity of Walla Walla.

Reininger 2012 Cima

Cima (summit, Italian) is an amazing Sangiovese–Bordeaux varietal blend, aged for nearly six years in barrel. The wine has become a REININGER perennial favorite. Gently explore its delicate and adventurous fragrances of exotic oriental spice, crushed violet, eucalyptus, sandalwood and currant with nuances of sweet pipe tobacco and leather. Let the glass be still. Wait for a bouquet of dates, dark fruit, vanilla, and a suggestion of soy dropped on cedar too appear. A soft tannin palate with animating acidity cedes focused sorry cherry fruit, plum, currant and cassis with wisps of vanilla, light roast coffee and lightly toasted cedar.  Be patient. There’s much to explore and deliberate in this elegant treasure. ~Chuck Reininger, Winemaker

Reininger 2013 Merlot

Sweet aromatic oak, reminiscent of my Great-Uncle Dell's unlit, moist pipe tobacco, accompanies this medium-dark red Merlot with deep scents of black cherry demi glaze, baked fig and cocoa. Its velvety palate and rich fruit are supported by soft, round tannins and an abundance of acid. Permitting this wine to breath a few hours will divulge layers of plush black cherry, roasted figs and plums drizzled with Chambord and drops of mocha. Take your time, enjoy. - Chuck Reininger, Winemaker

Reininger 2014 Merlot

"Though 2014 at the time was the warmest vintage on record, this Merlot was harvested at its normal time due to the vines attempt to conserve moisture by shutting down photosynthesis during periods of excessive heat. Such an ardent growing season blessed this Merlot with a nice garnet color and scents of dark red fruits, turmeric spice, cocoa, loamy earth and a touch of graphite. The soft structured, balanced palate has fine grained tannins and exhibits sturdy flavors of dark cherry, currant, and black plum with a pinch of spice and loam shadowed by lightly toasted oak. This wine is great with big, roasted tomato dishes." ~Chuck Reininger, Winemaker

Reininger 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon

Our 2014 REININGER Cabernet Sauvignon displays a touch of Old World attitude indicative of Walla Walla. Fleshy steak tartar aromas are the first to jump from the glass followed by intense black currant, dried prune and overripe plum seasoned with savory wood notes of oregano, rolling tobacco and pencil shavings. A soft, dry silky texture with very fine tannins delivers dark fruit flavors of black currant, black raspberry and fig. There’s an underlying umami hue that is whisked in with hints of vanilla extract, dark chocolate and espresso. ~Chuck Reininger, Winemaker

Reininger 2016 Semillon

"2016’s heat presented us with a full-bodied Semillon in need of acid. The answer to this balance conundrum was the blending of 15 % Sauvignon Blanc, a blend similar with white Bordeaux. Aromas of lemon, slightly baked green apples, saffron, straw and raw soaked honeycomb fill the glass. The wine has a moderate unctuous mouth feel complementing its weight and acidity. The palate displays mango, lemon with lemongrass, a hint of pear and midway begins to finish with straw and bees wax with a touch of honey. Gorgeous minerality courses through its profile start to finish. Enjoy this on your sail boat with your freshly caught San Juan Dungeness crab or scallops. Halibut and lobster are most excellent as well." ~Chuck Reininger, Winemaker
